About the ActThe Forest (Conservation) Act was enacted on the 25th day of October, 1980 (amended 1988) to provide for the conservation of forests of the country and matters connected with it. The Act provides that no forest land can be diverted for non-forestry purpose without prior approval of the Government of India. Forest Conservation Rules 2003 have been framed prescribing detailed procedures to give effect to the operation of the act. The said rules have been amended in 2004 and 2014.
